With one month remaining before the official release of CLRN’s textbook reviews for the Free Digital Textbook Initiative, we are nearing the completion of our work.

Math and science textbook reviews were completed on June 22nd and 23rd at CLRN’s science review site at the Humboldt County Office of Education and our mathematics review site at the Kings County Office of Education. CLRN staff, as well as representatives from Pearson Education, were present during both reviews, which were led by Cathy Dickerson, our science review coordinator and Jim Shaver, our math review coordinator.

Following CLRN central’s examination of all 20 reviews, CLRN notified publishers of their review results on July 2nd and offered each an opportunity to question or comment on review results. The window for publisher comments ends July 9th and during the week of July 13th, CLRN will re-review parts of several books  using new information provided by publishers. All reviews will be posted on or around August 10th.

On a side note, the 20 books that CLRN reviewed for the FDTI contained 867 content standards, each which was carefully reviewed. By comparison, CLRN reviewed a total of 9500 content standards during 2009-2010.
