With reviews now complete for the 17 books submitted to Phase Two of the Governor’s Free Digital Textbook Initiative, it’s time to collect data again. Last fall, more than 1,000 administrators and educators completed CLRN’s digital textbook survey. Now, in preparation for Phase Three, the Governor’s office has posted an online survey to learn more about how these resources are being implemented. All 1000 district superintendents will receive an invitation to participate, but we welcome you to take part as well.

“Californians are the most innovative people in the world, and I know that you may have ideas about how we can better use technology to improve education in our state. To help my administration learn more about your district’s technology initiatives, please complete a survey at http://www.schoolfinder.ca.gov/DigitalTextbookSurvey/.”

The question set is simple and while the survey should only take a few minutes to take, the data is quite important both to the Governor and to CLRN. Here are the questions being asked.

Do your schools currently use any digital materials/open educational resources? (If yes, there are several follow-up questions regarding grades, courses, and viewing platform.)

Do your schools plan on using any digital materials/open educational resources in the next school year?

Does your school district provide training for teachers to use digital textbooks/open educational materials?

What kinds of technology/hardware does your district have available?
