California eLearning Census: Results from 375 districts

While the California eLearning Census won’t close until May 1st, the presentation below is a snapshot of the first 375 districts and direct-funded charters, representing 23% of all districts/charters. From the beginning, the data has startled me and has been incredibly consistent from the beginning. When i have time, i’ll create a narrated version of these slides using Hello Slide, a great Web 2.0 tool.

Brian, I’m curious–what about the data has startled you?

    John,

oh, where to begin? I’d start with the 45% of districts that are eLearning, a number far higher than i’d anticipated in California. Other states may be far more accepting, but i hadn’t realized online learning was growing as fast as this. Next, that 29% of districts NOT currently eLearning WILL be eLearning in the next year. Added to the first group, it looks like 61% of districts will be eLearning next year. Finally, i’m surprised by the number of middle schools involved. While CLRN planned to begin reviewing middle school courses in the next few years, this data has forced our hand and we’ll begin our planning during 2012/13.
